Douglas County Participating Again in Operation Green Light

Shine a Light of Hope and Support for Our Veterans

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Tom Kress, Chris Boice, and Tim Freeman, issued a proclamation on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, celebrating November 11 as Veterans Day and November as Military Families Month in Douglas County. The proclamation calls upon all Douglas County residents to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and the military families who support them.

In addition to the proclamation, the Commissioners are proud to announce that Douglas County will once again participate in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to honor veterans and raise awareness of the challenges many face as they transition to civilian life.

Throughout November, the front of the Douglas County Courthouse will be illuminated in green to demonstrate the County’s appreciation and support for veterans and their families. Residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to join the effort by placing a green light on a porch or outside light fixture.

This simple but powerful gesture sends a message of hope, gratitude, and support to those who have served our country. It also reinforces Douglas County’s commitment to its motto: “In Douglas County, We Honor Veterans!”  Americans have a long and proud tradition of honoring those who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces. That commitment continues as Douglas County Commissioners and our Douglas County Veteran Service Office work with federal, state, and local partners to help ensure veterans have access to the services, resources, and support they need to thrive.

This November, Douglas County joins NACo, the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO), and counties, parishes, and boroughs across the nation in Operation Green Light. Together, we seek to ensure our veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported—not only on Veterans Day, but every day of the year.

The Commissioners also encourage residents to attend the 71st Annual Douglas County Veterans Day Parade, scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Roseburg. Affectionately known as “Oregon’s Greatest Veterans Day Parade,” this longstanding community tradition brings residents together to honor the men and women who have defended our freedoms.  For more information about the parade, visit the Douglas County Veterans Day Parade Committee webpage.
