2021 Douglas County Officials Sworn In
(Douglas County, Ore.) Kicking off the New Year with one of the first official actions of 2021, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners hosted the swearing in ceremony for the recently elected Douglas County Officials. Sworn in today were the county officers for District Attorney, Clerk, Treasurer and Sheriff.
This morning, Monday, January 4, 2021, starting at 9:00 am, Douglas County’s newly elected officials took the oath of office at staggered intervals (in order to accommodate social distancing) at the Douglas County Courthouse. The individual ceremonies were witnessed by a small crowd of family, friends and County employees. The newly sworn-in official’s terms will run from January 4, 2021 to December 31, 2024.
Sworn in today for Douglas County were:
Douglas County District Attorney, Richard Wesenberg was sworn in by the Honorable William Marshall, Presiding Judge for the Douglas County Circuit Court. He was elected to his fifth term as the Douglas County District Attorney in November 2020. Wesenberg was appointed by the state for his first term as the Douglas County District Attorney in July 2008, upon the retirement of Douglas County District Attorney Jack Banta. He then filed to run for the office in 2008 and was elected in November 2008. Wesenberg has since run and been elected in 2012, 2016 and now 2020. Wesenberg started his career as a Deputy District Attorney in the Douglas County DA’s office in 1992.
Douglas County Clerk, Daniel J. Loomis was sworn in by Douglas County Commissioner Tom Kress. Loomis was elected to a second term as the Douglas County Clerk in November 2020, after serving a 15-month appointment to the same office. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners appointed Daniel J. Loomis as County Clerk on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, for a term starting October 2, 2019 and ending January 3, 2021. He replaced retiring County Clerk Patricia Hitt, who retired at the end of September 2019.
Douglas County Treasurer, Samuel W. Lee III was sworn in by Douglas County Clerk, Daniel J. Loomis. Lee was elected to his first term as the Douglas County Treasurer in November 2020. Lee is the co-owner & founder of Western Financial, Inc., in Roseburg, Oregon. He brings with him extensive knowledge in wealth management, as well as a background in agriculture with a Farrier business and cattle/sheep operation, and he also served our country in the United States Marine Corps.
Douglas County Sheriff, John Hanlin was sworn in by Douglas County Clerk, Daniel J. Loomis. He was elected to his fourth term as the Douglas County Sheriff in November 2020. Hanlin first filed to run for the office in 2008 and was elected in November 2008. He has since run and been elected in 2012, 2016 and now 2020. Hanlin was hired by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in 1989. During his tenure, he has served as a patrol deputy in the South County and Roseburg Patrol Offices, as a Street Crimes Unit investigator, and as a narcotics detective. Hanlin was also an active member of the Sheriff's Office Tactical Response Team (TRT) for more than 12 years. In April of 2001, he was assigned to the position of Commander of the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT). In August of 2005, Hanlin was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to command the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division.
