DOUGLAS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 22, 2020

Commissioners Reassign Carr to the Douglas County Community Recovery Coordinator Position

(Douglas County, OR.)  The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, after further evaluation of the need in our county for post wildfire recovery support, decided to expand the Community Recovery Coordinator position to full time.  They are excited to announce that Dan Carr, currently the Juvenile Services and Development Manager in the Douglas County Juvenile Department, has been temporarily reassigned to fill the role as our County Community Recovery Coordinator.  He replaced Jenny Boyle, who was able to briefly step in and fill the much need role.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jenny, and the work she has done as the County’s Community Recovery Coordinator.  We were blessed to have her come out of semi-retirement, apply her expertise and get right to work, in what we knew would be a temporary role for her.  She has laid down a solid foundation for the County’s ongoing fire disaster recovery efforts,” commented Commissioner Tom Kress.  Her last day in the position was Friday, October 16, 2020.

Carr, as a part of Douglas County’s fire response efforts, will continue to work directly with wildfire victims and their families impacted by the 2020 Labor Day fires that ignited and burned just over 142,000 acres along the North Umpqua River, east of Glide.  He will be, among other duties, mapping and tracking resources and connecting them to those directly affected by the local wildfires.  Additionally, Carr will be helping others find access to necessary resources.  He transitioned into the position late last week, and has quickly immersed himself in the emergency response applications, programs, community and resources available.  He is currently working directly with individuals, businesses and the County to connect those that need it most with valuable and long-term resources.

Carr, who has worked for Douglas County since 2001, brings with him a tremendously diverse background, and skill set that will surely benefit this position.  Along with his work in the Juvenile Department, he has also worked in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and as a supervisor in the Douglas County Public Works, Work Crew Department.  Carr has worked in the emergency/first responder environment for most of his life, including stints with the United States Military and as a subcontractor for the Department of State.

Again, Douglas County is incredibly fortunate that we have someone of Dan’s caliber right here in our county, who was willing and ready to take on this new challenge.  We are also grateful to our Juvenile Department for supporting Dan and the Commissioners in this important work.  The recovery process for our neighbors, family and friends in the greater Glide area will take a lot of time, patience and support, and we are confident that Dan is the right person to connect the dots for the long-haul,” commented Kress

Carr will be working directly with the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.  If you are a victim of the recent wildfires and need resources, or you have resources available, or want to donate or volunteer, please contact Dan Carr at (541) 464-6410 or email him at r@co.douglas.or.us">dccarr@co.douglas.or.us.  There is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be accomplished in order to help our residents rebuild, rehome, revitalize and recover, so we ask that you please be patient and kind with one another and help our new Community Resource Coordinator.
