The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Lifts All Evacuation Notices For The Akawa Butte Fire

Sisters, Ore. -- The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all remaining evacuation notices in the Deschutes County areas associated with the Akawa Butte Fire as of 2:00 p.m. today, Monday, August 3. This means all impacted residents can now return home, marking an important step toward recovery for the Sisters community.
The New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team has transitioned into command of the Akawa Butte Fire as containment reaches 85%. The team supports lifting all evacuation levels while maintaining the forest closure for public safety. The U.S. Forest Service forest closure remains in effect and is being enforced. FS 11 Road, FS 2050 Road, and Stevens Canyon Road remain closed. Indian Ford Road and Wilt Road are now open.
Firefighters remain in the area conducting patrols, retrieving equipment, and completing post-fire operations. Community members may continue to see fire personnel and vehicles throughout the area as this work is completed.
More than 1,000 firefighters have been released from the incident to assist with other fires or to rest before future assignments. Approximately 250 firefighters and support personnel remain as the fire winds down.
