Akawa Butte Fire Update: The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Holds Steady On Evacuation Notices - 07/25/26

Sisters, Ore. — The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office announces that evacuation levels remain unchanged for Saturday, July 25, as fire fighters continue to make progress on the Akawa Butte Fire. Crews continue to locate and extinguish small spot fires outside containment lines on all sides of the incident, with fewer spots being found each day as suppression efforts strengthen.

Power remains disconnected in some areas to allow utility crews and firefighters to work safely. Fire personnel are also conducting operations along closed roads, including removing hazardous trees and constructing contingency fire breaks to support ongoing control and repair efforts.

Residents are asked to remain aware of fire activity and follow all road closures and evacuation notices. These restrictions are in place to protect the public and ensure crews have the access they need to complete their work safely.
