Deschutes County, Ore. -- The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office issues a Level 1 Evacuation Notice for the Akawa Fire burning in Jefferson County. It's proxmity to the Deschutes County line has prompted fire officials and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office to provide early notification to nearby residents.
To ensure the community has sufficient time to prepare, a Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation notice has been issued for Wilt Road, North of Wilt and Big Buck Road, and the northern single‑lane section of Mountain View Road. Level 1 “Be Ready” means residents should stay alert, monitor official updates, and prepare to leave if conditions change. You do not need to evacuate at this level, but you should have a plan in place, gather essential items, and be ready to go quickly if necessary.
