Narrative:
On March 20, 2024, The Major Incident Team was activated to investigate the officer involved shooting that had taken place on Highway 97 at approximately mile post 136. The Deschutes County Sheriff Office is leading the Major Incident Team.
In conjunction with the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, the Major Incident Team, and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office the initial investigation has revealed the decedent, Gabriel Platz, brandished a firearm during his contact with the City of Bend Police Department moments before an officer discharged their agency issued firearm.
This investigation is on-going and active at this time, any further information will be released by the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office.
