Homicide Suspect Sought By Deschutes County Sheriff's Office (Photo) - 08/11/23

Victim: Taylor Shane Wyss, 33-year-old male, Redmond 

Suspect: Caleb Joseph Cegers, 20-year-old male, Bend 

Arrested: Sadie Madalyn Cole, 21-year-old female, Bend

Charges: Assault IV, Hindering Prosecution, Criminal Mischief II 

Narrative: 

On August 10, 2023, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist the City of Bend Police Department with a homicide investigation that had taken place shortly after midnight in the 1000 block of Wall Street. The City of Bend Police Department formally requested the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office assume the role of primary investigative agency.

At approximately 5:30 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team executed a search warrant in the 19000 block of Astro Place. During the course of this operation the suspect, Cegers, was not located.

At approximately 3:00 am, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team executed a second search warrant in the 1700 block of Cackler Lane. The suspect was not located. 

At this time Caleb Joseph Cegers is believed to be the primary suspect in this investigation. If any members of the public have information regarding his whereabouts, please contact 911, if any members of the public witness Cegers, do not approach as he is believed to armed and dangerous.

This Investigation is active and currently on-going, more information will be released when it becomes available.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Street Crimes, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with six K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your duly elected Sheriff L. The agency has 265 authorized and funded personnel, which includes 195 sworn employees who provide services to the 3,055 square miles of Deschutes County.
