On July 8, 2022, at 1016 hours, 911 Dispatch received a call regarding an injured hiker on the Misery Ridge Trail at Smith Rock State Park. It was determined a 28 year old female had fallen, while hiking, and sustained injuries which prevented her from walking down the trail without the assistance of the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue.
Redmond Fire and Rescue made initial contact with the female and after evaluation determined she would have to be wheeled down in a wheeled litter by DCSO SAR Volunteers.
11 DCSO SAR Volunteers responded to assist the injured hiker. The DCSO SAR Volunteers departed the SAR Office at approximately 1045 hours and made contact with the hiker at approximately 1141 hours. The DCSO SAR Volunteers wheeled the injured hiker approximately ¼ of a mile down the trail. The hiker was then transported by vehicle from the area of the walking bridge at Smith Rock State Park to the parking lot where she was then transported to the hospital by Redmond Fire and Rescue for further evaluation.
