Vehicle: 2004 Kia Optima

On June 6, 2021 at approximately 6:00pm a Deschutes County Sheriffs’ Office deputy stopped a 2004 Kia Optima on Highway 97 and Pershall Way just north of the City of Redmond. During the stop the deputy believed the driver was giving him a false name. The deputy confirmed the person was giving him a fictitious name. The driver was identified as Bernice Mitchell and she had warrants for her arrest. He re-contacted Mitchell and advised her to exit her car. Mitchell then sped away from the traffic stop.

The vehicle was later located west of the stop location in the 2300 block of NW Coyner Ave. The vehicle was found to have been crashed. The vehicle was still running, but had been abandoned.

Chanelle Jackson who was identified as the passenger of the vehicle was contacted nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Deputies set up a perimeter in the area and searched for Mitchell. An alert was also sent to residents in the area advising of the search and description of Mitchell. At approximately 9:00pm a citizen called to advise a female matching Mitchell’s description was in the driveway of a residence in the 2500 block of NW Coyner Ave.

Deputies responded to the location and took Mitchell into custody without incident. During the investigation Mitchell was found to be in possession of a handgun, and felony amounts of methamphetamine and heroin.

Both Mitchell and Jackson were transported to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail where they were lodged on the above mentioned charges.
