DCSO Captain Placed on Administrative Leave - 04/02/21

Today, Deron McMaster, a Captain with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation into alleged agency policy violations.

Anytime the Sheriff’s Office receives information alleging a policy violation, we will completely investigate the allegation to determine if an agency policy violation(s) has occurred and if any personnel action is necessary. This investigation does not involve criminal allegations.

Sheriff L Shane Nelson “I want to protect the integrity of administrative investigations, therefore I will not be releasing further details. We will investigate, collect facts, and review the investigative conclusions in order to arrive at an informed decision.”

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with six K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your duly elected Sheriff L. Shane Nelson, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office serves over 200,000 residents in Deschutes County. The agency has 259 authorized and funded personnel, which includes 191 sworn employees who provide services to the 3,055 square miles of Deschutes County.
