Old Bend Redmond Hwy Rollover Crash

Released by: Sgt. Aaron Harding

Release Date: 05/18/2020

Location:    Old Bend Redmond Hwy near Hereford Ave.

Driver:          Justine Freeman, 23, Redmond, Oregon.

NARRATIVE:

On May 17, 2020 at about 9:15 pm, deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an Injury Motor Vehicle Accident on Old Bend Redmond Hwy near Hereford Ave. Deputies arrived on scene and determined that a silver 2001 Nissan Xterra, which was traveling northbound, left the road as it negotiated a curve. The Xterra appeared to have corrected its’ course back onto the road, but rolled several times ejecting the driver, Ms. Freeman.

Freeman’s infant child remained in the vehicle and was properly restrained in a rearward facing car seat. The infant was not injured.

Ms. Freeman was transported to St. Charles Medical Center, Bend for serious injuries. She was later transported to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland for continuing care.

The infants’ father arrived at the hospital to take custody of the child.

Ms. Freeman was not wearing her seatbelt during the crash. Alcohol is believed to be a factor along with adverse weather conditions at the time of the accident.

Bend Fire and the Oregon State Police also responded to the scene to assist.

This investigation will be ongoing.
