NARRATIVE:
On 10/16/2019 at approximately 7:59pm, a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 1988 Nissan pickup in the 20700 block of NW Smith Rock Way. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver.
The driver exited the vehicle and when the deputy attempted to contact him, the driver fled the area on foot. The deputy engaged in a foot pursuit with the fleeing subject but discontinued after losing sight of the subject near some outbuildings on a property east of the stop location.
Deschutes County 911 advised responding deputies that the vehicle was a stolen vehicle out of Lane County. Deputies with Deschutes County, Crook County, and Oregon State Police Troopers responded to the area to assist.
Deschutes County K9 “Brolo” was deployed to locate the subject. At approximately 8:55pm, K9 “Brolo” located the subject hiding inside a large brush pile on a field in the area. The subject was taken into custody without incident.
He was identified as Derrick James Freeman, 23 years old from Lebanon. Freeman had two outstanding felony warrants. Freeman was booked into the Deschutes County jail on the warrants and additional charges of Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and Attempt to Elude Police.
