FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: 10/08/2018

Released by: Sergeant Troy Gotchy

Bend, OR – Homeowner interrupts burglary when he returns home.  Idaho man arrested and property recovered.

On October 8th at approximately 2108 hours Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 20000 block of Destiny Court off of O.B. Riley road for a Burglary in progress.  The reporting person arrived home and saw an unknown subject inside his house.  The victim called 911 and started to leave his residence in his vehicle.  As he was pulling around in his driveway, a white passenger car drove around from the back of the residence almost colliding with homeowner.  The victim backed his vehicle up, and allowed the suspect vehicle to pass.

After the suspect vehicle had gone by him, the victim followed the suspect vehicle and provided updated locations to the 911 dispatcher.  Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office were able to catch up to the suspect vehicle and stopped a 1993 Dodge Sprint passenger car bearing Oregon license 859JMP at the intersection of 3rd and O.B. Riley Road.

The driver later identified as Robert Lee Tyson, age 36, of Pocatello, ID was contacted along with a female passenger.  Both were detained at the scene without incident while Deputies spoke with both subjects.

During the course of the investigation, several items belonging to the victim were recovered from inside the vehicle.  Tyson was arrested for Burglary I and Aggravated Theft (over $10,000) and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.  The female passenger was later released without charges.  The vehicle was impounded for no insurance.
