NARRATIVE:

On Friday, 7/13/18, at approximately  7:15 PM, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputies began a pursuit of a 2002 black BMW passenger car on Highway 126 Near Eagle Crest headed toward Sisters after the driver entered a vehicle after being stopped for urinating in public.  The driver left the scene after providing deputies with a false name.  Deputies began a pursuit at speeds ranging from 80-100 mph before deputies discontinued the pursuit for safety concerns.  Deputies began a search for the suspect in Dry Canyon area of Highway 126 during which a second, unrelated pursuit began in Bend.

At approximately 7:50 PM, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputies engaged in a pursuit on 15th Street near Knott Road in Bend.  Deputies attempted to stop a red 1998 VW Jetta for a seatbelt violation.  The vehicle was occupied by two males.  The driver sped away eastbound on Knott near Scale House at speeds in excess of 50 mph before turning northbound on 15th Street for a distance of approximately ¼ mile before the driver’s side front tire came off.

The driver attempted to continue to elude while driving on the brake assembly before stopping near the Bridges housing development before the vehicle became unserviceable and stopped.  The passenger got out cooperatively and was detained.  The driver locked all doors, and began taking his clothes off and acting erratically.  Deputies had to break multiple windows out to remove him from the vehicle.  Daniels was taken into custody and later transported to St. Charles Medical Center by deputies for treatment relating to the broken glass from the broken window.  One deputy received medical treatment relating to the broken glass during efforts to take Daniels into custody.  Daniels was identified as having a warrant for probation violation.  Alcohol and/or drugs are still being investigated.

At approximately 8:16 PM, Black Butte Police again located the first pursuit suspect in the area of Indian Ford and Camp Polk Road northeast of Sisters.  A second pursuit of this vehicle began as the vehicle traveled southbound on Camp Polk toward Highway 126 at speeds in excess of 80 mph.  Deputies were able to spike strip the vehicle near Aspen Lakes Golf Course before it arrived at Highway 126.  After running over the spike strips, the vehicle turned eastbound on Highway 126 and came to a stop due to flat tires near Cloverdale Road and was taken into custody without further incident.  Deputies located suspected Methamphetamine and are investigating to see if the license plates and/or the vehicle are stolen as they plates did not match the vehicle.  The driver was found to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.  Drugs and/or alcohol are not related to the suspect's driving.  This investigation is ongoing.
