Owner Cited After Her Two Escaped Dogs Attack Woman Walking Her Leashed Dog (Photo) - 03/15/18

Released by: Sgt. William Bailey -- Public Information Officer
Release Date: March 15, 2018

NARRATIVE:

On March 15, 2018, at 10:32 am, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a female that had been attacked by two dogs east of Bend. The incident occurred on Groff Road, between Supreme Ct. and Bacchus Lane.

An investigation of the incident determined Joy Stanovich-Brown of Bend was walking her leashed Dachshund/Chihuahua mix dog Rudy on Groff Road. Two Boxers living in the area escaped their fenced enclosure and went after Rudy. Stanovich-Brown picked up Rudy to prevent him from being attacked, which shifted the focus of the attack to her. Stanovich-Brown ended up on the ground where the attack continued until another citizen drove up and observed what was happening. The citizen pulled up next to Stanovich-Brown and helped pull her and Rudy into a vehicle. Stanovich-Brown was transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for multiple, non-life threatening injuries. Rudy was also injured in the attack and required veterinary care.

The two dogs responsible for the attack were located, impounded, and are now being held at the Humane Society of Central Oregon. They have been identified as a seven year old male Boxer named Marshall and a one and a half year old female Boxer named Brandi. Their owner, Jean A Straight of Bend, has been issued citations for two counts each of Animal Nuisance (DCC 6.08.050), Animal at Large (DCC 6.08.060) and Possession of an Unlicensed Dog (DCC 6.04.030).
