Suspect Sought in La Pine Pursuit (Photo) - 03/13/18

Released by: Sgt. William Bailey

Release Date: March 13, 2018

Driver/Suspect: Walter, Jason D Age: 42
La Pine, Oregon

NARRATIVE:

On March 11, 2018, at about 10:51pm, a deputy with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office was patrolling in the area of Day Road and Cascade Lane and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee for failing to properly signal a turn. The deputy also noted as the vehicle passed in front of his patrol car, the driver was laying low in the seat and attempting to avoid being seen.

After the deputy activated his emergency lights to initiate the traffic stop, the vehicle failed to yield for a short period of time before quickly accelerating away. The deputy pursued the vehicle northbound on Day Road and then eastbound onto Sunset Lane. The driver entered a residential driveway at the east end of Sunset Lane and as the vehicle came to a stop, the vehicle struck the house on the property causing minor damage. The driver then fled on foot to the north.

Deputies were able to track the suspect for a short distance, but were unsuccessful in locating him. Based on evidence collected in the vehicle, the driver has been identified as 42 year old Jason D. Walter of La Pine. He is wanted on charges of Attempting to Elude - Felony, Attempting to Elude - Misdemeanor, Hit and Run - Misdemeanor, and Criminal Mischief I.

Walter is believed to be living at an unknown location in the La Pine area. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911, reference case 18-71560.
