NARRATIVE:

On January 05, 2018, at 7:14 p.m. deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and paramedics from the Bend Fire Department responded to a two vehicle crash on the Old Bend-Redmond Highway south of Rodeo Dr., north of Bend. Arriving deputies found a black 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup on the southbound shoulder of Old Bend-Redmond Highway, facing south that had struck a tree. The black 2007 Nissan Altima was parked on the northbound shoulder of the roadway.

An investigation at the scene determined Valdovinos was driving northbound on the Old Bend-Redmond Highway, following the Nissan. He passed the Nissan in a no passing zone (double yellow) and as his vehicle became parallel with the Nissan, he rapidly accelerated, causing the Chevy to fishtail on the slick roadway, hitting the Nissan. The Chevy then spun around, slid off the roadway backwards and struck the tree.

Valdovinos was transported to Saint Charles Medical Center - Bend with serous injuries. He was later cited and released on the above listed charges. Sinclair was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Neither Smith nor Newton were injured.

The Old Bend - Redmond Highway was restricted to one lane of travel for approximately 45 minutes during the investigation.
