Department Of Revenue To Host Video Conference On Corporate Activity Tax Rules - 10/24/19

Salem, OR—The Oregon Department of Revenue will host a video conference to seek input from business taxpayers and tax preparers in eastern Oregon about the administrative rules for Oregon's new Corporate Activity Tax.

The agency's rule writers will hear the concerns, questions and suggestions of those eastern Oregonians affected by the rules in a video conference 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, October 30.

The video conference is being conducted in cooperation with the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. For information on how to participate, business taxpayers and tax preparers can RSVP via email that includes their name, email address, community and phone number to robin.maxey@oregon.gov.

“The video conference will provide the opportunity for the business community in eastern Oregon to provide valuable input into the rulemaking process for the Corporate Activity Tax,” said Nia Ray, director of the Oregon Department of Revenue.

Key issues expected to be raised in the video conference include:

  • Who must register.
  • When and how businesses register.
  • Who must file and who must pay the tax.
  • Annual returns based on calendar year activity.
  • How commercial activity is defined.
  • Where sales are sourced.
  • What business models are covered by the term “agent.”
  • Exclusions for groceries, subcontractors, wholesalers and others.
  • What counts toward the 35% subtraction.
  • How estimated payments will be calculated.
  • When estimated payments are due.

More information about the Corporate Activity Tax, including a list of frequently asked questions, is available on the Department of Revenue’s website.

Those who are unable to take part in the video conference, but want to provide input, may email questions or comments to cat.help.dor@oregon.gov.
