Families Have Until Sept. 1 To Apply For Summer EBT Food Benefits - 08/06/26

Families have until Sept. 1, 2026, to apply for essential food assistance through the Summer EBT program. The program offers $120 per eligible child to help cover grocery costs while school is out.

 

Thousands of families may be unaware that they qualify for this essential benefit. With the application deadline approaching, the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) urge families to check their eligibility and to apply before the deadline. Benefits must be used within 122 days.

 

“We want to make sure children have enough to eat throughout the summer and that all families know about the help available,” said ODHS Director Liesl Wendt. “We don’t want families to think it’s too late to apply. Reach out to ODHS today so we can check your eligibility and connect your family with food benefits.”

 

ODE Director Dr. Charlene Williams added, “We’re asking community organizations, schools, and summer meal providers to help spread the word by posting flyers and sharing information with families. We want every eligible child to receive this food benefit.”

 

Most eligible children received their benefits automatically on June 5, 2026, including children in foster care. Other children are automatically eligible if their households:

  • Participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Participate in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Are Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members in households with incomes under 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Level

Families who did not receive benefits automatically may still be eligible if:

Families are encouraged to visit sebt.oregon.gov. For information in Spanish, visit ebtv.oregon.gov.or contact the Summer EBT Call Center at 833-673-7328 to verify eligibility and apply.

Since June 5, 2026, more than 331,844 eligible school-aged children have been issued $39.8 million in Summer EBT food benefits.
