**UPDATE** Sutherlin Man Arrested For Manslaughter I Following Fatal Car Crash (Photo) - 11/21/17

***UPDATE 11/21/2017***

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is now investigating this crash as a homicide.

On November 20, 2017, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was notified that Nathaniel Layne Cagle of Sutherlin succumbed to his injuries sustained in the traffic crash.

The driver of the vehicle, Lejay Tyler Cole of Sutherlin, who was intoxicated at the time of the crash, has been arrested on an additional charge of First Degree Manslaughter.

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 3:18 am, Douglas County Emergency Communications received a 9-1-1 call of a vehicle crash in the 2500-block of Old Melrose Road in Roseburg.

Emergency services were dispatched to the single vehicle crash. Deputies determined the vehicle had been operated by 19 year-old Lejay Tyler Cole of Sutherlin. Cole's passenger, 21 year-old Nathaniel Layne Cagle also of Sutherlin, was critically injured in the crash.

Cagle was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg and was later transferred to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene where he remains in critical condition.

Cole was determined to be under the influence of intoxicants. He was arrested for DUII (Misdemeanor), Recklessly Endangering Another (Misdemeanor) and Assault in the 2nd Degree (Felony). He was lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
