KickStart Smiles Pizza Fundraiser To Support Children And Families In Recovery (Photo) - 09/08/26

ROSEBURG, Ore., September 8, 2026 — Community members are invited to enjoy pizza while supporting local children and families during the KickStart Smiles Pizza Fundraiser on Sunday, September 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Abby’s Legendary Pizza on Stephens Street in Roseburg.

When ordering food during the event, whether dining in or ordering to go, customers are asked to let Abby’s staff know that their order is in support of KickStart Smiles and/or the H.O.P.E. Drug Court Program.

Proceeds raised during the event will be used to purchase backpacks, school supplies and children’s activity items for youth whose parent is participating in substance use treatment and receiving KIC (Kids in Common) Housing assistance through Adapt Integrated Health Care.

KickStart Smiles was created as a H.O.P.E. Drug Court community project to provide something positive and practical for children while recognizing the important role family can play in a parent’s recovery.

Recovery Is About More Than One Person

Substance use can affect an entire family, and recovery can do the same.  For parents working toward sobriety, rebuilding relationships with their children can be one of the strongest motivations to continue moving forward. Recovery requires hard work, accountability and a willingness to make significant changes. For many parents, those changes include creating a safer and more stable home, rebuilding trust and becoming more consistently present in the lives of their children.  Family reunification is not simply about bringing a family back together. It is about helping parents develop the stability, skills and support necessary to create an environment where children can feel safe, supported and cared for.

H.O.P.E. Drug Court Helps Bring the Pieces Together

The H.O.P.E. Drug Court Program brings together the court system, treatment providers, supervision, community partners and other supportive services to help participants address the issues contributing to substance use and justice-system involvement.  Rather than focusing on one issue alone, Drug Court recognizes that successful long-term recovery often requires attention to many areas of a participant’s life, including substance use treatment, housing, employment, mental health, transportation, family relationships and personal accountability.

Participants are expected to make recovery a priority while meeting structured program requirements and working toward greater independence and stability.  For parents, that progress can have an impact far beyond their own lives. Each step toward sustained recovery has the potential to strengthen relationships, improve stability for children and help break cycles that can affect families across generations.  Community projects completed by H.O.P.E. Drug Court participants are another part of that process. They provide participants with an opportunity to give back to the community, recognize the support they have received, and use their own experiences to help others.

KickStart Smiles reflects that spirit of recovery, gratitude and giving back.

Community members can support KickStart Smiles simply by enjoying a meal at Abby’s Legendary Pizza on Stephens Street between 2 and 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 13.

When placing an order in person or to go, customers should tell Abby’s staff:

“This order is for KickStart Smiles” or “This order is for the H.O.P.E. Drug Court Program.”

Funds are only provided when the staff knows the order is meant to help the program and money will be used to purchase backpacks, school supplies and activity items for children in families receiving KIC Housing assistance while a parent participates in substance use treatment.  The event offers the community an opportunity to support not only a child who may need a backpack or school supplies, but also a parent working to build a healthier future for their family.  A donation box will be inside Abby’s during the event for those who would like to drop off items for the program to use.

Recovery can change one life. Supporting recovery can help strengthen an entire family.
