Why Your Help Matters
The Gary Leif Navigation Center plays a vital role in our community by not only meeting immediate needs but also providing pathways to stability. A warm blanket, a pair of shoes, or even a game to pass the time can bring comfort and dignity to someone navigating difficult circumstances. More importantly, the Center connects individuals with services that help them secure housing, employment, and other supports—transforming lives through compassion and opportunity.
“UCAN is honored that Zach has chosen to support the Gary Leif Navigation Center through the Treasures of Hope Drive, reflecting the spirit of service that strengthens our community and embodying Community Action’s belief that ‘those in need must lead'. The drive stands as both a sign of Zach's personal growth through the H.O.P.E. Drug Court program as well as an invitation to anyone who has asked, ‘What can I do to support my unhoused neighbors?’ and is looking for a meaningful way to do so." - Jordan Jungwirth, CEO UCAN. “On behalf of the Gary Leif Navigation Center, I want to thank Zachary for thinking of our guests,” states Laura Coates, GLNC Shelter Support Supervisor, “His contribution helps us provide more than just essentials – it helps us create an environment of compassion, dignity, and support as individuals take steps toward stability.”
Zachary Thor Schwab, H.O.P.E. Drug Court graduate phase participant explained, “Providing hope for the unhoused and less fortunate people in our community is my goal. I want to give back to a nonprofit organization that has helped me numerous times throughout my life.” Join us in making a difference this season. Together, we can help provide comfort, hope, and a path forward.
The Douglas County H.O.P.E. Drug Court will host its 111th graduation ceremony on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Cascade Hall. The event will be presided over by the Honorable Judge Robert B. Johnson.
Operating under the Douglas County Circuit Court, the H.O.P.E. Drug Court is an innovative program dedicated to reducing recidivism, addressing substance use disorders, and helping participants build new, sustainable lives beyond their past criminal actions. The program emphasizes personal transformation while focusing on each participant’s future potential.
As part of the program’s final phase, graduates complete community projects that highlight their personal growth, social development, and motivation for higher achievement. These projects will be on display in the lobby during the ceremony, with poster boards showcasing the graduates’ work, process, and accomplishments.
Community members are warmly invited to attend and join in recognizing the graduates’ success and supporting them as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
