Three Traffic Fatalities In Cowlitz County In The Past 8 Days - 01/04/21

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office reports 3 recent fatalities involving motor vehicles:

 

CCSO case # 2020-3226

On 12-27-20020 at approx. 11:30 AM Gregory Friedel 58-YOA of Bremerton, WA was fatally injured while participating in an off-road motorcycle race at the Woodland Motorcross track located in the 3200 block of Lewis River Road Woodland. Deputies along with Fire District 1 personnel responded to the scene where Friedel was pronounced deceased. He was struck by another rider while getting up from the track after a preceeding collision.  

CCSO case # 21-3

On 1-1-2021 at 1:53 AM Deputies, Castle Rock Police Chief Scott Neves, and Fire District 6 responded to the 700 block of Headquarters Road Castle Rock to the report of a man down as a result of a motorcycle accident. At the scene, aid was rendered to Nathanial Roller 37-yoa who was injured and laying alongside the roadway. Despite lifesaving efforts Roll was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation determined that Roller left his nearby residence on an off-road motorcycle and was traveling on Headquarters Road when he left the roadway and struck an embankment and was thrown from the motorcycle. Roller, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered severe head trauma. The Coroner’s Office is awaiting toxicology results.

On 1-1-2021 at 8:41 AM Deputies, Cowlitz County Dive Rescue, Longview Police, WSP, and Longview Fire responded to the intersection of Mt. Solo Road and Willow Grove Connection for the report of a vehicle on it’s top in the adjacent slough. Initial contact was made with an occupant of the vehicle who had managed to get out and make his way to the roadway. Investigation determined the vehicle was southbound on Mt. Solo Road and failed to come to a stop at the intersection with Willow Grove Connection Road and continued through the intersection leaving the roadway and coming to rest in the slough. The driver was found deceased and seat belted in the vehicle. He has been identified as Nathaniel Mingefiiy 19-yoa of Vancouver. The Coroner’s Office is awaiting toxicology results.  

 The Sheriff’s Office is saddened by the loss of these lives and encourage everyone to practice safe driving habits to prevent future events of this nature.Speed, distracted driving, failure to utilize safety devices, and driving under the influence can have tragic consequences.
