Resident Displaced After Trailer Fire, Dog Injured (Photo) -03/31/23
Kelso, WA- Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue responded to a trailer fire Friday morning just after 9 am in the 300 block of Hawthorne St. Fire crews arrived and reported a small travel trailer fully involved in fire with adjacent mobile homes threatened. Firefighters confirmed all residents were evacuated from the adjacent homes and attacked the fire. The fire was knocked down fifteen minutes after fire crews arrived. The resident of the travel trailer was able to escape in time; his dog suffered some fire-related injuries. He later took his dog to a local vet for care; no updates on the dog were given. Cowlitz County Public Utility District, Cowlitz County Sheriff deputies, and Cascade Natural Gas also responded to the incident. The trailer is a total loss; the cause of the fire was accidental and related to a propane heater inside the trailer. Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident with shelter and other needs. No other injuries were reported.
