Kelso, WA- One adult male was transported to the hospital after being rescued from an apartment fire Wednesday night. Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue and Longview Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 9:54pm Wednesday night in the 400 block of Ash Street. The initial on-scene Engine Company reported heavy smoke coming from one of the three one-story units. Firefighters made access to the apartment, knocked the fire down, and retrieved the 72-year-old man from the unit who was unresponsive. The man was rapidly transported to Peace Health St. John’s Medical Center for treatment; the man was later transferred to Peace Health Southwest Medical Center. Firefighters had the fire knocked down in under seven minutes from arriving on scene. Kelso Police and Cowlitz County Public Utilities District also responded to the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation; no other injuries were reported.
