Monday night garage fire displaces family (Photo) - 02/04/20

Kelso, WA – Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue and City of Longview Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 1100 block of North 1st Ave. Monday night at 10:40.  Fire crews arrived on scene and attacked the attached fire in the garage.  The family of 3, and their multiple pets, were out of the home when fire crews arrived; fire officers also ordered evacuations to a nearby home as a precaution.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the two-story home in under 30 minutes.  Three fire engines, a medic unit, and a Chief officer responded to the incident.  Cowlitz County PUD also responded.

The American Red Cross will be providing shelter and other needs to the displaced family.  Fire officials estimate $30,000 damage to the home.  Occupants were treated for minor smoke inhalation on scene.  The cause of the fire is under investigation; no other injuries were reported.
