Local firefighter receives award for Muscular Dystrophy Fundraising efforts (Photo) - 02/08/19

Lincoln City, OR - Firefighters attended the 2019 Greater Oregon Muscular Dystrophy Association Boot Camp Friday afternoon where MDA coordinators meet with IAFF “Fill the Boot” coordinators to discuss fundraising strategies, share in successes of the previous year, and learn how our efforts benefit those affected by muscular diseases.

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue firefighter/paramedic Ben Dobrinski was presented with the Michael D. McNeill award. The award represents Ben’s dedication and passion toward the MDA and the “Fill the Boot” fundraiser.

The award’s namesake served in the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division, after which he became a member of the Denver Fire Department. He retired in 2000 and died in 2007 after a long battle with kidney cancer. Mike exemplified what it meant to be a supporter of the MDA. The award is given to fundraising coordinators who go above and beyond to create new and innovative ways to raise funds for the MDA.  Ben exemplifies these traits and we are humbled and proud to have him as our coordinator.

Multiple times each year firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue participate in the national effort to raise thousands of dollars for Muscular Dystrophy research by "Filling the Boot". Ben has continued this effort and help it maintain its success. Over $15,000 have been raised in the last two years alone. Thank you to our community for raising the bar each year and helping to fund this research.
