Firefighters Rescue Man And His Dog From House Fire (Photo) -12/18/18

Kelso, WA- Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue and City of Longview Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of NW 2nd Ave Monday night just before 9pm.  Fire crews arrived to the one story house half engulfed in flames; reports from neighbors and Police Officers on scene were that there was a man still inside.  Firefighters were able to knock the fire down and rescued the adult male from a bedroom window in less than five minutes; the man’s dog was also rescued from another room in the home.  The man was transported by Cowlitz 2 to Peace Health St. John Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation and burns; he was later sent to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.   The dog “Blue” was given oxygen outside the home by firefighters and was later transported by a neighbor to a local emergency Veterinarian.  Two engines, two medic units, and two Chief Officer responded to the call.  Multiple law enforcement agencies and Cowlitz County Public Utilities District also responded.  Fire officials estimate damage to the home and contents at $60,000.  The cause of the fire is under investigation, no other injuries were reported.
