News Release
Residents displaced after afternoon house fire - 12/14/18

Cowlitz County, WA- Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Lexington Ave just before 2pm Friday.  Initial reports were from an off duty Cowlitz 2 firefighter and an American Medical Response (AMR) EMT who reported flames from a front room window, from the roof, and that there were cars and other property near the home at risk of catching fire.  The two off duty responders ensured everyone was out of the house and provided other critical information for incoming units including a down live power line.  Four engines (including one from Cowlitz Fire District #6 in Castle Rock), a water tender, a medic unit, and two Chief Officers (including one from District 6) were dispatched to the incident.  Cowlitz County Sheriff deputies and Cowlitz County Public Utility District also responded.  Fire crews reported the one and a half story home was half involved with fire when they arrived; they had the fire knocked down in under 6 minutes and canceled other resources initially dispatched.  One male resident was evaluated by Paramedics on scene, no injuries were reported.  The home is considered a total loss, according to fire officials.  Red Cross will be assisting the residents with shelter and other resources needed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
