News Release
Rural basement fire caught early - 03/12/18

Cowlitz County, WA- Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, Longview Fire, Cowlitz County Fire District 6 (Castle Rock) and Wahkiakum County Fire responded to a house fire Monday afternoon just before 5pm in the 600 block of Fall Creek Rd. The resident reported to dispatch that there was smoke coming from the garage door and from the basement of his house when he arrived home. Fire crews arrived to see no flames or smoke of the two story house, but did locate the fire in the basement. Fire crews had the fire knocked after twenty minutes of on scene time. Four fire engines, three water tenders, a brush engine, and a chief officer responded to the incident. Fire officials estimate $15,000. in damages to the home and its contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental. No injuries were reported.

Lieutenant Arrera, Incident Commander of the incident, comments on the fire, "The fact that the homeowner closed the door once he recognized there was a fire in the basement limited its growth and spread to the rest of the house until fire crews arrived. It really helped in the outcome today".
