Juvenile Arrested for Shooting at Moving Vehicle - 04/09/19

On April 8th, 2019, at approximately 11:38 PM, Corvallis Police Department Officers were dispatched to the area of NW 29th St and NW Grant Ave for a report of criminal mischief, where the caller, a 22-year- old Corvallis resident, believed two juveniles possibly threw something in the roadway causing his left rear vehicle tire to deflate as he was driving through the area.  No suspects were located and nothing was seen in the roadway on the initial call.

At approximately 12:01 am, officers were dispatched back to area with the owner of the car, who was reporting a male juvenile previously seen running from the area had returned, and was waving around a pistol.  Officers arrived on scene as the suspect, a 16 year old from Yamhill County, was running north through the back parking lot of First Alternative Natural Foods store.  The juvenile suspect threw the firearm over the fence of the Montessori School and jumped the fence.  He was subsequently located and detained by officers.  The firearm, a Glock 9mm handgun, was recovered from the playground of the school.

After investigating the circumstance surrounding the incident, it was learned that the juvenile suspect had stolen the handgun from a vehicle in the 1000 block of NW 31st ST, then shot the gun at a moving vehicle, hitting the tire.  As the driver was attempting to fix the tire, the suspect returned and brandished the stolen handgun demanding cigarettes. The juvenile suspect was arrested for Attempted Robbery I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Recklessly Endangering, Criminal Trespass II, Theft I, and Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle.

The suspect was transported to the Linn-Benton Detention Center where he was lodged.
