News Release
Juvenile Charged for Initiating False Report - 02/22/18

On the evening of February 21st, 2018, the Corvallis Police Department was contacted by the Corvallis School District for a report of threats made to a student at Linus Pauling Middle School via Snapchat. The initial report to police was for a potential act of violence, and did not expressly identify a particular school in the 509J School District. As a precaution, Officers assisted Linus Pauling Middle School, as well as other schools, with providing extra security while the investigation continued. However, the investigation determined that the 14-year-old female student, who claimed to have received the threat, was the source of the social media post which she claimed the alleged threat came from. The student was taken into custody at 3:00pm on February 22nd, and transported to the Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center where she was charged with Disorderly Conduct I and Initiating a False Report. The Corvallis Police Department takes any threats of violence to the schools seriously, and ask that the public report any potential threats of violence immediately to authorities.
