CAFM has set a standard of 150 AQI (Air Quality Index) for determining if farmers’ markets will open this Saturday in Corvallis and Albany. A final call will be made at 3 pm Friday.

Go to and put in a 97330 or 97321 zip code to monitor current AQI.

CAFM canceled the Wednesday market for Sept. 9. This was only the second cancellation CAFM has made since 1995.

Not all farmers will attend even if farmers’ markets are open. Some may have needed to evacuate their farms and homes.

Farmers may have limited selection. Most farms are harvesting selectively – picking those crops that must be picked – and trying to limit their exposure to unhealthy conditions.

Sourdough bakers are struggling with whether to start a multi-day process when the outcome is not known. Similarly, restaurants need to prep food they cook at markets.

CAFM will attempt to remove vendors from our online maps as they cancel, but it won’t be possible to offer complete information on vendor attendance.

Customers should consider contacting individual farmers to see if specific crops are available or could be pre-ordered.

The next level below 150 AQI is “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” Everyone should evaluate trips based on their own health conditions. CAFM recommends using a mask designed for smoke and particulates – not just to reduce/prevent transmission of Covid 19.

News will be shared on, its three Facebook pages and other social media outlets. CAFM uses the FlashAlert system to notify media.
