News Release
Local Artists Transform Chairs for Children as Fundraiser for Local Furniture Bank - 03/12/18

On a typical morning at Community Warehouse, the region's only furniture bank, you'll find a giant row of mattresses, couches lined up end-to-end, and ceiling-high shelves stacked with pots & pans, dish sets, and linens - all donated, essential home furnishings waiting to be connected with local families in need. By the end of the day, the Warehouse is much emptier - many of these items have found new homes.

This time of year, among the furniture you'll also find a growing collection of artfully decorated chairs waiting to be featured at the Warehouse's annual fundraising event, the Chair Affair on April 21, 2018. Dozens of generous, talented artists transform cast-off chairs to create one-of-a-kind pieces that will be on display during the event. Guests can sponsor a chair to go to a child at the Warehouse.

When the event ends, the real magic begins, as these beautiful chairs are given to children who come to the Warehouse with their families. Many of those kids haven't known stability or had possessions all their own in quite some time. Delighted smiles light up their faces when they find a chair made just for them, a place to read, do homework or create artwork of their own.

The Chair Affair opens with a lively cocktail hour and Silent Auction, followed by a delicious dinner and exciting Live Auction...all to support the good work of Community Warehouse. The event will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 5:30 pm at The Sentinel. Tickets on sale now at $175 each. Tickets can be purchased online at communitywarehouse.org/chairaffair or contact anna@communitywarehouse.org.

Community Warehouse is a nonprofit furniture bank that connects essential furniture and household items to 7, 800 individuals, including 3,553 children, every year. Through partnerships with over 200 social service agencies, the Warehouse helps 60 households each week in our Portland and Tualatin locations, and keeps 500+ tons of goods out of landfills each year. Together, we put used goods to good use every day as we help our neighbors in need. The Chair Affair is the Warehouse's major annual fundraiser. All proceeds from the event directly support Community Warehouse. Learn more at communitywarehouse.org
