Adult In Custody Dies At Clatsop County Jail (Photo) - 10/21/26

On October 20^th, 2026 at 0550hrs, Laree McEvoy, 61 of Wheeler, was found unresponsive in her cell during regular checks.  Jail staff immediately provided medical aid and were assisted by Medix and Warrenton Fire Department.  McEvoy succumbed to an undetermined medical condition. 

McEvoy had turned herself in to the jail the prior evening to serve a 5-day jail sentence.  She was evaluated by medical staff prior to housing.  An autopsy was performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office today, with final results pending.

The investigation was conducted by Clatsop County’s interagency Major Crimes Unit.  The investigation was led by Lt. Chris Wilbur of the Cannon Beach Police Department.
