News Release
Arson suspect arrested - 07/09/18

A 56-year-old woman is in custody for Arson I following an early morning fire at her Knappa home.  Mona Lisa Heilmann was arrested by the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office following a Clatsop County Sheriff's Office investigation.  Heilmann was found in Chinook, Washington where she had been staying with a family member for several months.  Hielmann was arrested without incident and remains in the custody of the Pacific County Sheriff awaiting extradition to Oregon.

The Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police were called to the fire scene by the Knappa-Svensen-Burnside Fire Department.  The fire department had been dispatched to the residence in the 41000 block of Hillcrest Loop for a structure fire.  Responding firefighters found the fire had been extinguished by residents in the home prior to their arrival.  Further examination of the home revealed what responders believed to be evidence of arson.  One resident of the home sustained considerable injuries during the fire suppression.  The man was treated and released by a local medical facility.  Family members who had been concerned by her recent behaviors identified Heilmann as the suspect and when combined with additional evidence uncovered by investigators a warrant was obtained for her arrest.  Heilmann is not currently considered a suspect in any other fires in the local area.

The Clatsop County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police Arson Unit, Oregon State Fire Marshall’s Office, Pacific County Sheriff’s Office, Knappa-Svensen-Burnside Fire Department and several local businesses.
