Ballots Being Mailed For May 16, 2023 Election - 04/25/23
(Astoria, OR) — Election ballots for the May 16 Regular District Election will begin arriving in Clatsop County voters’ mailboxes this week.
The election features county and local ballot measures and special district elections.
Voter pamphlets were sent out to county voters beginning April 19. Pamphlets are also available online at ClatsopCounty.gov.
If you are registered to vote in Clatsop County but do not receive your ballot by May 3, contact the Clerk and Elections Office at 503-325-8511.
BALLOT PROCESS LIVE-STREAM
In the spirit of transparency, the Clatsop County Clerk’s Office will again provide live, online video streaming of its processing of local ballots, from the verifying of signatures through to the actual count. The streaming will be available to view at ClatsopCounty.gov.
Sorting and signature verification will begin on or around April 28. Actual opening and counting of ballots will begin May 15.
BALLOT DEADLINE CHANGE
Voters are reminded that last year the Oregon Legislature changed the deadline to submit mail-in ballots.
Previously all ballots, whether mailed or hand-delivered, were required to be received by their local election’s offices by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Now, ballots that are postmarked by Election Day will be counted.
However, voters should note that a ballot dropped into a mailbox after the last pickup time stated on the mailbox on Election Day might not be postmarked until the next day, and as a result, would not be counted. To ensure that their ballots are counted, the Clerk’s Office recommends that voters mail their ballots early, or use one of the seven drop boxes located around the county:
