News Release

Deputies Arrest Wrong-Way Driver At Salmon Creek Safeway (Photo) - 07/28/26

On July 28, 2026, at approximately 7:55 a.m., Clark County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the area of NE 179th Street and Interstate 5 after receiving multiple reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5. At approximately the same time, the driver of that vehicle, 35-year-old Marvin Badilla, called 911 and reported that he was being chased.

Interstate 5 traffic cameras captured Badilla's vehicle, a silver Toyota Prius, and did not show any vehicles actively pursuing or following him.

Badilla continued driving recklessly until arriving at the Safeway near NE Highway 99 and NE 129th Street. The investigation indicates Badilla's vehicle struck two parked vehicles in the store's parking lot. Deputies contacted Badilla inside the store and took him into custody without incident. Badilla was medically evaluated by AMR personnel before being booked into the Clark County Jail on probable cause for Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, and two counts of Hit and Run.

No community members were reported injured during the incident.

Separate Investigation

Badilla is also under criminal investigation for false reporting connected to an alleged stabbing that occurred on July 23 in Hazel Dell.

The investigation into the reported stabbing remains active. Additional details are not being released at this time.
