On December 11, 2022, just before 2:00am, Clark County Sheriff's Deputies responded to assist the Washington State Patrol at the scene of a serious injury collision blocking NE 117th Ave just south of NE Padden Parkway. Due to the serious nature and size of the collision scene, traffic was completely stopped on NE 117th Ave to allow EMS to provide patient care at the scene. Deputies had positioned their patrol vehicles in the northbound lanes of NE 117th Ave to block traffic.
Felagai Moananu (41), a Vancouver resident, was one of the motorists stopped in traffic just south of the collision scene. A Trooper noticed Moananu appear to doze-off behind the wheel of his pickup before it rolled forward and collided with a Clark County Sheriff's Office Patrol Vehicle. Thankfully, the Patrol Vehicle was unoccupied at that time as the Deputy was out assisting with the original collision.
After an investigation, Moananu was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and/or Drugs. There were no reported injuries as a result of the collision.
