News Release
Murder/Suicide in Salmon Creek-Update - 12/09/22

Update 12/9/22- 08:54 hours

This is difficult to even type into an update…The 6-month-old infant succumbed to his injuries, received from this incident, early this morning. We were told that his mother, who remains in the hospital, and family were able to be with him.


Update 12/8/22- 15:13 hours

The deceased, suspected shooter from this incident has been identified as David E. Stansbury, Jr., 42, of Vancouver, WA. 

The female victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators have not yet been able to speak with her. 

The child remains hospitalized in critical condition. 


On 12/07/2022 at approximately 15:20 hours, Clark County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a report of a disturbance with a weapon at a residence in the area of NW 152nd Street and NW 4th Place in the Salmon Creek neighborhood of Vancouver, WA. The 911 caller, an adult female, reported that her husband had just shot their infant child, shot her, and then shot himself.  As CCSO deputies arrived, they made exigent entry into the residence and found three people down on the ground from apparent gunshot wounds.

CCSO deputies began triaging and providing first aid to the three subjects. Medical personnel from American Medical Response (AMR) and Clark County Fire District 6 (FD6) had staged and were called into the residence.

The female caller was transported to a local trauma hospital with gunshot wounds. She was intubated and taken into surgery shortly after arrival at the hospital. She was described as being in critical condition. The infant child was transported emergently to a local children's hospital with a gunshot wound. The child was described as being in critical condition. The suspected male shooter was pronounced dead at the scene and not transported. 

Clark County Sheriff’s Office Majors Crimes Unit (MCU) and Tactical Detective Unit (TDU) responded to the scene and took over the investigation. 

This case is being actively being investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Majors Crimes Unit with assistance from the Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit. 

At this time, there are no further details to release. As involved persons are identified and conditions change, this release will be updated.
