On Thursday, April 29th at 6:00am, CCSO Deputies and EMS personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 10500 block of NW Lakeshore Avenue. Upon arrival, EMS personnel attended to the male driver of a 2006 Nissan Sentra who had significant injuries and was still in his vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager, also appeared to have injuries but had been able to self-extricate.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, identified as Matthew Northy, age 63 of Vancouver, was removed from the vehicle, and transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Northy suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition.
The driver of the Plymouth Grand Voyager, Esther Huizar, age 25 of Vancouver, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to an area hospital.
Witnesses reported that the Plymouth was traveling north on NW Lakeshore Avenue and the Nissan had stopped at a stop sign and was attempting to make a left turn from NW 105th Street onto NW Lakeshore Avenue when it was struck by the Plymouth. A witness stated the Plymouth appeared to be traveling at what they believed to be well above the posted 40 mph speed limit.
The CCSO Traffic Unit responded to the scene due to the nature of injuries involved. Based on the initial investigation, speed appears to have been a significant factor in the collision. Photos have been attached to this press release.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
NW Lakeshore Avenue between NW 104th Street and NW 106th Street was closed for approximately 5 hours during the investigation.
