News Release
Teen killed, another injured in two-car Crash - 11/15/20

On 11/14/2020 at 8:55 pm, CCSO deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of NE 139th Street and NE 72nd Avenue in the Laurin area of Clark County.

911 callers reported that a full size pickup truck had struck a coupe at the intersection and that the occupants of the coupe were significantly injured.  Upon arrival, EMS personnel attended to two occupants of a 2007 Honda Civic coupe that had been struck broadside by the pickup.  The driver of the Civic, a 16 year-old male and a 14 year-old female passenger were transported to area hospitals with significant life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the truck reported no injuries and remained on-scene.

The CCSO Traffic Unit responded to the scene a short time later and learned that the truck had been traveling north on NE 72nd Avenue.  The Honda Civic had been traveling west on NE 139th Street and pulled out and into the path of the northbound truck.  The truck collided with the Honda just behind the Honda's driver's door.  East/West traffic on NE 139th Street is controlled by stop signs at the intersection.  There is no stop sign for North/South traffic on NE 72nd Avenue, and the speed limit for NE 72nd Avenue is 50 mph.

Tragically, the 14 year-old female succumbed to her injuries and died at an area hospital.

Timothy McCaughey, age 37 of Battle Ground was identified as the driver of the pickup truck, a 2007 GMC.  The identity of the juvenile occupants of the Honda coupe will not be released due to their ages.  It should be noted that the driver of the Honda had recently obtained his license and was in Intermediate status at the time of the collision.

This collision is under investigation.  At this time, investigators are looking into a number of factors that would have caused this collision.

Traffic Unit detectives are looking for public assistance in investigating this incident.  Detective Todd Young requests anyone who directly witnessed this collision to contact him at Todd.Young@clark.wa.gov.
