Fatal Traffic Collision CORRECTION ON NAME OF DECEASED (Photo) - 09/15/18

The name of the deceased is APANA, Albert M,  Not APANI as previously published.

Updated information, 9/15/2018, 10:00am

The names of the involved parties are as follows:

Vehicle 1:  2004 GMC Envoy SUV

Driver, Vehicle 1: DUDLEY, Joseph T; 18 year old male, Vancouver resident

Vehicle 2: 2009 Ford F450 Utility truck, owned by Clark PUD

Driver, Vehicle 2: APANI, Albert M; 56 year old male, Vancouver resident

Vehicle 3: 1974 Ford pickup

Driver, Vehicle 3: MOORE, James M; 44 year old male, Yacolt resident

No other occupants were involved in the collision.  Apani was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.  Both Dudley and Moore suffered non-serious injuries.  Additionally, a resident of NE 82nd Avenue suffered fence damage as a result of the collision.

The collision described earlier occurred during a passing maneuver, when both Dudley and Moore were southbound on NE 82nd Avenue.  Dudley attempted to pass Moore, driving into the oncoming lane.  Apani was traveling northbound and Dudley's vehicle collided with Apani's vehicle and secondarily Moore's vehicle.

Both Dudley and Moore are cooperating with this investigation.  All factors and proximate causes are being investigated by the CCSO Traffic Unit, and no charges have been filed at this point.

On 09-14-18 at approximately 1224 hours the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Fire/Rescue were dispatched to a three vehicle traffic collision in the 28900 block of NE 82nd Ave.  Upon arrival deputies learned the driver of one of the vehicles was deceased.  The driver of the second vehicle received minor injuries and was transported by AMR to an area hospital.  The driver of the third vehicle was not injured and remained on scene. 

At this time it appears one vehicle was passing another when the collision occurred. 

One of the vehicles involved is a Clark County PUD truck. 

Names of the involved parties are not being released at this time. 

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is at the scene investigating. 

NE 82nd Ave between NE 279th St and NE 299th St is expected to be closed for the next several hours while the investigation is underway.
