Drowning Victim located at Paradise Point State Park (Photo) - 06/13/18

On 6/12/2018 at about 4:45pm, Clark County Fire and Rescue (CCFR) and Sheriff's Deputies  (CCSO) responded to Paradise Point State Park, located in La Center, Washington, for the report of a male subject in the East Fork Lewis River near the swimming area.  Two witnesses reported seeing a male yelling for help in the middle of the river.  While one of the witnesses called 911, the other took his Kayak and paddled to the male in an attempt to assist him.  The male went under the water before the kayaker could render aid, and did not resurface.

Using information on where the male was last seen, CCFR rescue swimmers attempted to find the male subject to no avail.  The Clark County Dive Rescue Team was summoned to continue the search, which they did until dark that evening.  The male, identified by his personal effects as Michael C. Keith, age 41.  Keith was listed as a resident of La Center.  Keith was not located on 6/12/2018.  His family was notified of his status that evening.

On 6/13/2018 at 6:30am, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Dive Team resumed searching for Keith, assisted by the CCSO Marine Patrol Unit.  Keith was located at 4:20pm by MCSO Divers, near where witnesses stated he was last seen. He was found, deceased, in 55-degree water at a depth of 20 feet.  Keith was turned over to the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office.  His family was notified of his being found.

CCSO extends their heartfelt thanks to the mentioned agencies as well as the Washington State Parks for their tireless efforts working to locate Keith.
