News Release

Multi-Agency Teams To Conduct Large-Scale Structural Collapse Rescue Training (Photo) - 10/12/26

Members of the media are invited to attend a joint structural collapse training exercise on Thursday, October 15, at Camp Rilea, where Clackamas Fire's Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) Task Force will train alongside the Oregon National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The training will simulate a large-scale structural collapse following a tsunami that destroyed a coastal town with multiple people trapped in the rubble. Responders will work together to search the collapsed structures, locate and rescue victims, provide medical care, and coordinate their evacuation for further treatment.

The exercise will give the participating agencies an opportunity to practice working together during a complex disaster, such as an earthquake or post tsunami, where multiple resources are needed. Military resources will supplement Clackamas Fire’s USAR Task Force during the exercise, giving responders the opportunity to practice the coordination that would be needed during a major disaster that stretches beyond the resources of a single agency.

The exercise will also include simulated patient transport by helicopter, allowing responders to practice moving critically injured survivors from the scene to additional medical care.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
• Video/photo opportunities of live helicopter hoist operations and search and rescue operations
• Interviews available with:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria

  • Oregon National Guard

  • Clackamas Fire Urban Search and Rescue Task Force

DATE: Thursday, October 15

TIME: Media arrival 9:30 am

LOCATION: Camp Rilea

Members of the media interested in attending are asked to RSVP in advance by emailing cfdpio@clackamasfire.com  to receive location and parking information.
