News Release
Healthcare Providers become Firefighters for the day - 04/12/19

On Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Clackamas Fire, in partnership with the Tactical Athlete Health and Performance Institute (TAHPI) will be hosting a Fire Operations Day and turning medical professionals into firefighters. During this event, those healthcare providers that normally diagnose and treat firefighter injuries will don a set of turnouts, complete with air pack and go to work in a simulated firefighting environment. This highly visual event will allow the practitioners to rotate in small groups through several firefighting stations to include:

  • Fire attack simulations to include deploying hose, searching buildings wearing air packs and forcing doors utilizing the various tools carried on the fire apparatus.
  • Auto Extrication exercise that will demonstrate the use of the extrication tools known as the “Jaws of Life” to simulate the treatment and removal of a patient entrapped in a vehicle.
  • Emergency medical scenario to include the treatment, packaging and removal of a patient from a second floor room with limited access.

All of these evolutions will allow the medical practitioners to personally experience the movements and exertion required of firefighters on the ever changing and dynamic emergency scenes that firefighters face. The goal is to further educate the practitioners through personal experience in an effort to better allow them to diagnose, treat and rehab firefighters to return to work in the most efficient way.

This event is closed to the general public but will provide highly visual access to members of the media.  All training will take place at the Clackamas Fire Training Center, located at 15990 SE 130th Ave., Clackamas, OR 97015.
