City Of Vancouver Seeks Next Police Chief (Photo) - 11/05/26

Vancouver, Wash. – The City of Vancouver has launched a nationwide recruitment to hire Vancouver’s next police chief.

“We are seeking a strategic and compassionate leader who will advance the City’s values and priorities while fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, equity, and respect,” City Manager Lon Pluckhahn said. “Our next police chief will embrace Vancouver’s diversity, lead with transparency, and build strong, trust-based relationships with our employees and the community we serve.”

As Vancouver grows, the City needs a police chief who can help navigate increasing demands for service and guide recent funding investments. The next chief will oversee the ongoing implementation of Proposition 5, the police services levy, and upcoming state grants, which will help Vancouver Police Department hire new officers.

To understand the community’s needs and expectations for its next police chief, the City has developed a survey to gather thoughts and questions for the candidates regarding the attributes and leadership qualities the community values.

The feedback will help identify a pool of candidates who reflect the community's needs. The anonymous survey is located on Be Heard Vancouver and is open through Nov. 30. The most frequently asked questions will be posed to applicants during panel interviews and a candidate forum with finalists in January.

The City has contracted with GMP Consultants to help manage the national recruitment and hiring process, with the goal of an appointment in January.

Chief Price will help support the transition to the next chief before retiring in early 2027.
