News Release

City Of Vancouver To Host Open House At Newly Completed Bridge Shelter (Photo) - 10/21/26

Vancouver, Wash.—Community members are invited to tour the completed bridge shelter at 5333 N.E. 94th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98662 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Providers and City staff will highlight services and provide information on how the shelter will serve as a lifesaving step into housing.

“The bridge shelter is a place our unhoused neighbors can come to seek critical services while they work toward permanent housing,” said City Manager Lon Pluckhahn. “We are grateful to our funding and service partners who share a commitment to addressing homelessness with compassion.”

Funding partners provided $5.65 million for the shelter, including Clark County Opioid Abatement Council, Clark County’s Mental Health Sales Tax, and PeaceHealth’s Community Health Improvement Plan Grant. A $1.9 million grant from the Ed and Dollie Lynch Fund, Community Foundation of Southwest Washington, will fund limited-term Homeless Assistance and Resources Team positions to provide outreach and help guide people into the shelter.

The bridge shelter is expected to open by the end of November. The bridge shelter will offer case management, housing assessments, employment readiness and job search support, work opportunities, education, peer-to-peer recovery support, hygiene services, and outdoor space for animals. The shelter can expand capacity for severe weather events.

Do Good Multnomah, a local non-profit, will operate the shelter and provide 24/7 on-site support. Our Streets will supply meals cooked in the commercial-grade production kitchen to residents of the bridge shelter and Safe Stay and Safe Park Communities. The Cowlitz Indian Tribe will provide a medication-assisted treatment program through North Star Clinic.

The bridge shelter is a key component of the City’s emergency response action plan to address the homelessness emergency declared by City Council in 2023. Learn more at cityofvancouver.us/bridgeshelter.

Register for the event by emailing Kerry Peck at kerry.peck@cityofvancouver.us. Parking is limited. Carpooling and public transit are recommended.

The City will host a pre-event opportunity for media to speak with project staff and capture behind-the-scenes footage of the new facility in advance of the community open house on Oct. 28 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
