News Release
Bird Scooters Pilot Program Canceled - 08/02/22

(Tualatin, OR) – The City was notified in mid-July that due to unforeseen factors Bird will no longer be pursuing their plan to launch an e-scooter pilot program in Tualatin. As such, the launch of e-scooters planned for this summer has been canceled at this time.

The City remains open to considering other scooter and/or bike sharing programs in the future to make transportation more accessible, convenient, and sustainable in Tualatin. “While we are disappointed that Bird won’t be launching, the good news is we now have a framework that other providers can use to bring e-scooters to our community. Tualatin remains committed to improved transportation and environmental sustainability and we’ll continue working towards those goals through projects like our Climate Action Plan and Tualatin Moving Forward,” said Deputy Public Works Director Nic Westendorf.

On June 13, the Tualatin City Council voted in favor of a one-year, electric-scooter pilot program with Bird Scooters. The City had planned to team up with Bird, a leader in environmentally friendly electric transportation, to bring shared e-scooters to the community. The intent of the e-scooters is to replace gas-powered car trips when going to the store, meeting up with friends, exploring the community, and taking other daily trips.
